Pure Fishing's Chief Operating Officer John Doerr landed this Musky on a recent new product field-testing trip. The 44-inch Musky was caught on a bluegill colored 1/4 ounce Berkley Frenzy Rattlr' and released back into West Lake Okoboji in Northwest Iowa.
John was actually targeting the largemouth bass that frequent West Okoboji’s many canal systems when the monster musky hit. John was fishing with the soon to be released Abu Garcia Cardinal 802 spinning reel and a new Berkley Tactix 6'6" medium action Jigging/Worming rod. His reel was spooled with 10# Berkley Trilene Sensation. After a 15-minute battle, which included the fish making a few trips under and around the dock, John was able to land the monster with the help of a nearby boater. "This is my first Musky and man do those big fish pull. During the battle, I was very impressed with the smoothness, the drag performance, and the toughness of the new Abu Garcia Cardinal 802," said Doerr, who has spent a lifetime chasing trout in the Rocky Mountains and saltwater fishing in the Northwest. “The new Tactix rod was equally impressive. It’s responsive and smooth and worked flawlessly with the Cardinal 802,” Doerr added. Way to go John! Keep on fishing. Pure Fishing, located in Spirit Lake, Iowa is the parent company of Abu Garcia and Berkley. Both the Abu Garcia Cardinal 802 spinning reel and the IM7 Berkley Tactix rod family will be available in the fall of 2006. Read more about: Stories From the Field: We Fish!

Abu Garcia Pro Kelly Jordon came from fourth place to take the Potomac Bassmaster Elite Series title by 7 ounces over Skeet Reese.
Fishing the grass mats that he thrives on, Jordan sacked 5 fish for 17-15 to edge out Reese’s final day ottal of 5 fish at 17-14. Kelly focused on the grass mats, flipping a variety of plastics to attract fish. "My Abu Garcia Revo STX was the key. I was able to cover a lot of water quickly and accurately. That's one sweet reel. I know I can cast it all day to right where I want it and I know it has the toughness to pull big fish after big fish out of heavy cover," Kelly said. It was an emotional rollercoaster for both anglers at the final weigh-in. “I was sure I’d lost.” Jordon said, “but I weighed in right behind Skeet. We were sitting right next to each other in the bag line. I had three big ones and two little rats. I thought I had 16 to 17 pounds, and Skeet thought he had 16 pounds. When he weighed in 17-14, it was like he kicked me in the stomach.” Jordon now needed 17-09 to beat Skeet and he was sure he didn’t have it. “When they weighed mine, I couldn’t even look,” Kelly said. “They threw my bag on the scale and it read 17-15. I was in disbelief. I couldn’t believe it.” “My hat’s off to Kelly,” Reese said. “He beat me fair and square. But when I weighed in I thought I had it won.”
The win at Potomac is the fifth career victory for Kelly. Jordon fished the tournament using the new Abu Garcia Revo STX low profile reel on a Fenwick 7’9” Techna AV rod. He spooled with the new 65 pound Spiderwire Ultracast to deal with the tough matted grass. Read more about: Kelly Jordon Wins Potomac Bassmaster Elite Series Event With New Abu Garcia Revo STX Reel
Abu Garcia® is starting a revolution with the new REVO™ series of low-profile baitcast reels - the fastest low-profile reel Abu Garcia has ever designed.
The tough REVO is packed with innovative features, including a Duragear™ oversized brass main gear for maximum cranking power and the innovative Carbon Matrix™ Drag System for incredible smoothness. The reel is also designed with aluminum components for light-weight performance and lasting durability. “Not only is this one of the smoothest, most comfortable reels I have ever used, it’s also one of the toughest,” said Kelly Jordon, Abu Garcia Pro staff member. “The REVO is loaded with features for maximum performance on the water and has the durability Abu Garcia is known for.” The Linear Magnetic Brake™ system found on the SX and STX models allow anglers a wide range of adjustments to fine tune the reel for any application. In addition, the STX model features an Everslik™ coated pinion shaft and pawl, which dramatically reduces friction for enhanced casting while improving durability. The STX also features the innovative Infini Spool II™ system, which, separated from the drive train, minimizes friction for optimal performance – even with the lightest tackle. “With the linear brake adjustments at my fingertips, I can dial this reel in for pinpoint accuracy,” added Jordon. “The REVO has quickly become my ‘go to’ casting reel – it’s so smooth and casts a country mile.” Built tough with Abu Garcia’s traditional Swedish engineering, the REVO is ideal for nearly all freshwater applications, from casting crankbaits or spinnerbaits to pitching and flipping softbaits.
