Last weekend 28 Oct.2006, Thomas Lee led three first timers for sailfish at Rompin.
The sails were not in great numbers, but we managed to land 8 of them, all released after taking pictures.
The highlight of the trip was the ABU GARCIA REVO STX loaded with 10# pink BERKLEY FIRELINE. The ABU REVO STX was on loan to me with kind courtesy from Mr. Quek of PUREFISHING. We had a solid hookup with the ABU REVO STX mounted on my mini Thomas Stroker rod.
At one time the sailfish stripped almost 200m of the 10lb FireLine, but the strong drag of the reel managed to slow down the fish.
The pictures show Mr. Ian fighting the sailfish with my guidance.
Admittedly he was very surprised himself, he was able to land such a big fish [his first sailfish] with such a small reel on 10 lb line. He was jubilant indeed when the sailfish was placed on his lap for a quick photo session after which the fish was released in good condition.
It was good fishing by any standard, as the sailfish was landed in 15 minutes as compared to other anglers who take longer time with much bigger reel and stronger line. The fish was estimated at 35 kg (77 pounds) by the boatman Mr. Chong.
